What does EN 50365 add to a helmet?
Electrical insulation. EN 397 is the industrial safety helmet standard covering impact and penetration. EN 50365 certifies the helmet for work on or near live parts up to 1000V AC, and a helmet only carries it if it has no ventilation holes and no conductive fittings.
Vented or unvented?
Vented is cooler and is fine for general construction. Unvented is what you need for electrical work, because a vent is a path to your head, and for molten metal splash. Do not drill a vent into an unvented helmet.
How should a helmet be adjusted?
The harness should hold the shell off the skull so there is a gap to crush, which is where the protection comes from. A helmet resting on your head does very little. Chinstraps matter at height, where losing the helmet on the way down is the actual risk.
